Spun Chat Basics

Scenario: You want to message a colleague, a client at another organization, or a freelancer — without needing WhatsApp at all. Spun Chat gives you free DMs with voice messages, translation, and AI features built in.

Prerequisites

• A Spun account (no WhatsApp connection needed!)
• Spun Chat enabled (toggled on by default for all users)

What is Spun Chat?

Spun Chat is a standalone messaging platform built into Spun. It works completely independently from WhatsApp. Every Spun user — even those on the free tier — gets:

• Free messaging — unlimited text and voice DMs
• Free AI token allowance — use AI features within Spun Chat
• Voice messages with auto-transcription
• Per-viewer translation — each participant sees messages in their own language
• Cross-org connections — message people in other Spun organizations

The sidebar tab was previously called "Team" or "Internal" — it's now called Spun Chats.

Getting started

1. Click the Spun Chats icon (MessagesSquare) in the sidebar, or switch to the "Spun Chats" tab in the chat list.
2. Click "+ New conversation".
3. Search for a user by name or email.
4. Start messaging!

Voice messages

1. Hold the microphone icon to record.
2. Release to send — the message includes both the audio and an auto-transcription.
3. Recipients can listen to the original audio or read the transcript.

Cross-org connections

Connect with people in other Spun organizations:

1. Go to Spun Chats → Connections.
2. Click "+ Add Connection".
3. Enter their email or Spun username.
4. Once they accept, you can message them directly.

Per-viewer translation

Each user sees Spun Chat messages in their preferred language:

• Set your language in Settings → General → Interface language.
• Incoming messages automatically display in your language.
• The original message is preserved — you can toggle to see it.

Pro tips

• Spun Chat is not WhatsApp — messages here don't go through WhatsApp at all.
• @mentions notify specific people in group chats.
• Shared chat links let you reference WhatsApp customer conversations inside Spun Chat.
• Free tier users get Spun Chat + a free AI token allowance. Buy token packs if you need more AI.

Troubleshooting

Problem	Solution
Can't find Spun Chats in sidebar	Check Settings → Interface — it may be hidden in Simple mode
Connection request not received	Verify the email address matches their Spun account
Voice message won't record	Grant microphone permission in your browser
