How Spun Works
A high-level overview of how Spun connects to your WhatsApp, processes messages, and delivers AI-powered features.

Key components
1. WhatsApp connection
Spun connects as a linked device to your WhatsApp account — the same mechanism as WhatsApp Web or Desktop. Your phone remains the primary device.
- No API keys or business API needed — works with personal and business WhatsApp.
- End-to-end encryption preserved — Spun sees messages only after they're decrypted on the linked device.
- Your phone can be offline for up to 14 days while Spun stays connected.
2. Message processing
When a message arrives:
- WhatsApp delivers it to the linked device session.
- Spun stores it in the encrypted message store.
- Real-time event is pushed to all connected browser sessions (SSE).
- If automations are configured, AI processes the message.
3. AI engine
The AI engine powers all intelligent features:
- Compose — generates message drafts from prompts
- Translate — bidirectional text and voice translation
- Summarize — condenses long conversations
- Smart Replies — suggests contextual responses
- Auto-labeling — categorizes messages by intent
- Chatbot/Autopilot — autonomous conversation handling
All AI operations consume tokens from your monthly allowance.
4. Weave AI assistant
Weave is your in-app AI assistant that can:
- Answer questions about Spun features
- Search your conversations
- Perform actions (compose, summarize, translate)
- Provide contextual suggestions
5. Real-time sync
All connected clients (browser tabs, mobile app) receive updates in real-time via Server-Sent Events (SSE):
- New messages appear instantly
- Status updates (delivered, read) sync across devices
- Team actions (labels, archives) are reflected immediately
Data & privacy
- Messages are stored encrypted in Spun's cloud.
- PII redaction is available (Settings → Safety) with configurable levels.
- Data can be exported or deleted (Settings → Safety → Data Export/Delete Account).

What Spun is NOT
- Not a WhatsApp Business API provider — Spun uses the linked device protocol.
- Not a CRM — but it syncs with HubSpot and has contact management.
- Not email — Spun is WhatsApp-first (plus Spun Chat for non-WhatsApp messaging).
